A former Indiana couple whose miraculous journey from infertility to two sets of twins gained national attention shared their story with Katie Couric on Wednesday.
Misty and Brian Baker, formerly of Kokomo who now live in Seattle, have two sets of nearly-8-month-old twins after battling infertility for a decade.
Then Misty’s best friend, Amber Pluckebaum, also of Indiana, offered to be a gestational surrogate, and shortly after she was implanted with Misty and Brian’s embryos, she became pregnant with their twins.
At the same time, Misty gave in vitro fertilization one more try, and she also became pregnant with twins as well.
The two sets of twins, born 2,000 miles and 35 hours apart, were finally united in June.
“After the journey taking so long, we were so looking forward to one or two or however many we could get,” Brian Baker told Couric in an interview Wednesday. “The shock came after they were born and we realized how much work it would be to take care of all of them.”
